2024 TVCEF ANNUAL GRANT WINNERS
2023 TVCEF ANNUAL GRANT WINNERS
TVHS L.I.N.K: Brandon Hertzler, Kim Brandt, Kiersten Leitner and Elizabeth Siegfried
For the past several years, we have seen a significant increase in costs from Camp Conrad Weiser where we hold both our Fall and Spring LINK events. Since it is an all-inclusive weekend package price per student with food, lodging and activities we had anticipated some price increases but since COVID, we have faced much higher rates in consecutive years than we expected. For the past two years, we have struggled with being able to keep our retreats at an affordable rate for our students at Twin Valley.
This year’s grant funds will give us the financial support to ensure that for the next several years the LINK program activity account can take on those increases in costs and we will not have to transfer those costs to students and their families. In addition, it will allow us to provide scholarships to students with financial need who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend the trip.
TVHS Driving Simulators: Andrew Frey
The Health & PE department is excited for the grant money to assist in a successful beginning to our drivers education program. The money will be put toward the acquisition of driving simulators to be used in the classroom. The simulators will enable students to experience the simulated effects of driving under varying levels of intoxication, drug use, distraction and other potentially dangerous driving situations.
HBEC Project FeederWatch: Michelle McClure
Project FeederWatch will allow our students to become citizen scientists. Cornell University uses data collected from citizens from the United States as well as Canada to monitor and help birds nationwide. This project allows our students to be involved in an authentic data collecting program. Students will learn the importance of collecting data to help understand our bird population. The information collected can help scientists measure changes in the winter ranges and the number of bird species over time. Monitoring birds is essential in protecting them. This project will help students become invested in the environment around them and be part of something bigger than themselves.
HBEC Freelap to better health: Greg Linsky
“I see this project raising the excitement around personal health, growth and development. Students will leave HBEC better prepared for middle school physical education fitness testing and future athletics as well. In conjunction with fitness testing in PE class, I coordinate running clubs here at HBEC as well. Combined, students will have many opportunities to grow, develop and refine skills to help them be better lifelong pursuers of personal health and fitness.”
